Last week saw Goldsmiths alumni awarded for their journalistic talents.

Hardeep Sandher, Goldsmiths alumnus and Senior Reporter for Property Week, won in two categories at the Periodical Training Council‘s New Journalist of the Year Awards, including the overall winner category. She won New Business Features Journalist of the Year, and PTC New Journalist of the Year. Judges praised her as a “hugely talented journalist,” applauding her “flair and style” and “massive potential.”

Andrew Ellson, another ex-Goldsmiths student and Personal Finance Editor of The Times collected the Abbey media award last week for best Personal Finance Section of the Year for the Times Money section at the Santander personal finance media awards.

He said: “Winning the award feels fantastic; it is a great recognition of all the hard work the Times Money team has put in over the last year to help people as the economy has lurched from one crisis to another. Although my MA at Goldsmiths feels like a long time ago now, it was invaluable in providing me with the grounding and contacts to start out my career in journalism.”

Mr Ellson also came runner up in the Specialist Personal Finance writer category, he received plaudits for his analysis and insight in the mortgage industry.

Louise Ridley and Paul Bentley, who graduated from Goldsmiths last year were both nominated for the PTC’s Most Promising Journalist category.
