Following up his London Cross Country Championship victory, Cambridge Harriers’ Dean Lacy stormed to an impressive win Saturday at Danson Park in Bexleyheath.

38 second lead

Lacy finished the 10k course in 32:23, 38 seconds ahead of Tonbridge AC’s Andy Combs. The Cambridge runner now leads the Kent cross-country individual championship table with one race to go, scheduled for February 13 in Swanley.

Other Harriers to place were Dave Reader in 27th, Andy Knight in 32nd and Gavin Howes in 38th.

Despite finishing second, Combs led a strong showing from Tonbridge. The club placed members in seven of the top 10 spots, consolidating their second-place position in the team league table.

While Cambridge prepare for the Kent championships at the Detling Showground next month, the club was part of the Swanley Christmas Caper on Sunday.

Lacy was once again Cambridge’s high man, finishing the 4.2 mile course in 21:45, 20 seconds behind winner Andrew Rayner. The third-place finish was even more impressive considering Lacy ran in full Santa Clause costume, and only revealed his identity at the end of the race.

The next highest Harrier was Mark Perry, who placed seventh with a time of 24:45.
