Hackney built the 'big glass building' named Hackney Services, at a cost of around £56mn. I will be critical in stating that this building should have only been built and funded by Hackney on the basis that Hackney council was a successful in its duty in providing homes, shelter and improved alternative accomodation to house the vulnerable. Instead, the excessive funds highlight the policy and financial carelessness of council officials. Hackney councillors need to get its house in order first. And only then should it be able to hold its head up high - and shout from the roof tops that is has been successful in achieving and reaping the reward for supporting the necessary funding for the social/council housing demands for the people of Hackney they are meant to be representing.

The Lib Dem national manifesto has a costed plan to bring 250,000 empty homes back into use across the UK. We will provide grants to the people who own these homes if they provide them for social housing, or loans for private use.

Impressive work, nice to see new media technologies combined with good old fashioned investigative reporting skills and socially conscious campaigning journalism. If only the mainstream media did this sort of thing...
