I’ve been writing a plugin for various Google-Maps related tasks. It’s going to be pretty cool. This is a test of the function to insert an externally-hosted Google map.
[ell-gmap-iframe mapurl=”http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&msa=0&msid=103557958741648739888.000494103de273961392d&ll=51.479848,-0.033174&spn=0.118883,0.068579&output=embed”]
And it just give an error:
Error loading Google Map – Could not load map because the URL of the externally-hosted Google map in your shortcode is not on the list of allowed domains in the ELL Google Maps Shortcode Plugin settings.
Have you taken a look at customisable OpenStreetMap based maps?
Hiya,
I’m just tinkering with the plugin at the moment. Annoyingly, some features that work in my test site don’t seem to work on our live one. It should be displaying the map as it should now, though.
I’ve not looked at OpenStreetMap lately, though this plugin should be able to embed those too, as long as they offer an iFrame embedding service for them. The plugin I’m working on is actually a suite of tools for geomapping posts. It’s currently based exclusively on v3 of the Google Maps API. I’m considering bringing in some external JS library to abstract things a bit, which might make it easier to use alternative mapping APIs, as well as just Google’s. It’s all a matter of finding the time to experiment with these things.
Cheers,
Alex
