Some readers might find the following statement a little unbelievable but Croydon, South London, will collide with Kingston, Jamaica on Thursday.

Scientist, the legendary dub-reggae producer and protégé of King Tubby, has just released an album which fuses the respective sounds of two cities a world apart – and he’s showcasing it at Fabric nightclub.

Scientist Launches Dubstep Into Outer Space‘ takes dubstep, the once underground, now chart topping, dance-music phenomenon which began in Croydon, and interprets it in a traditional Jamaican dub-reggae style.

Tracks from Croydon resident Loefah as well as scene stalwarts such as Kode 9, Mala, King Midas Sound and Pinch are given the treatment by Scientist and presented in a two-disc set which includes the dubstep originals alongside their dubbed out versions.

The album, which is out via Tectonic, will be celebrated at Fabric with a line-up that includes Scientist playing live, alongside DJ sets from Mala, Pinch and Loefah. Anyone who has visited the club before will know that the in-house sound-system is sure to deliver the full vibration of Croydon and Kingston combined.
