A female prison officer has been sentenced to one year in prison for having an affair with an 18-year-old who murdered a Lewisham youth.

Emma Beard, 31, was charged for having a sexual relationship with Danny McLean, a gang member, who was serving a 15 year prison sentence at Feltham Young Offenders Institute.

The married mother-of-four was found guilty on November 4 of misconduct in a public office, after being caught having sex with McLean by another inmate.

She was sentenced on Friday at Isleworth Crown Court.

After Beard and McLean were discovered, photos of her posing semi-naked and love letters were found during a search of his cell. One was signed “I love you” and another said “I dream about you and I can’t stay away from you.”

Danny McLean is serving a life sentence for the murder of Shakilus Townsend, a 16-year-old boy from Deptford, who was having a fling with McLean´s girlfriend at the time, Samantha Joseph.

After McLean found about the affair, Joseph acted as a “honeytrap”, and led Mr Townsend into an ambush on a deserted road in Thornton Heath.

The victim was then beaten by the South London gang ‘Shine My Nine’ and fatally stabbed six times by McLean.
