Croydon meets Jamaica in brilliant vinyl sound-clash

Horsepower productions meet Yellowman for January's best single

Long time Croydon residents turned Dubstep originators release a fantastic rework of one of dancehall reggae’s best loved tunes this month.

Horsepower Productions have been chosen to kickstart the Greensleeves Dubstep series, during which legendary tunes from one of the greatest reggae labels of all time get reworked in a 21st century style.

The Horsepower crew, who have released some of Dubstep’s most seminal cuts, were chosen to reinterpret Yellow Man’s brilliantly titled Zungguzungguguzungguzeng, originally released in 1982.

The result is a mutant composition that blends mad soca rhythms, thrusting bass, dub effects and sweet vocal snippets, and is set to become one of the best singles of the New Year.

Horsepower have had the pleasure of reworking another reggae legend, Lee Scratch Perry, as part of a remix series celebrating the life and dubs of the eccentric producer.

Record collectors, DJs and bass connoisseurs will all be reaching for a copy of the Zungguzungguguzungguzeng remix.

Even if you aren’t any of the aforementioned, you will surely be interested to hear this latest collision of raw Jamaican energy and south London electronic techniques.

Websites like Chemical Records are taking pre-orders now.
