The Eagles’ hopes are high for a return to their original home, following the backing of the West Ham stadium bid.

It is hoped that the club can return to the National Sports Centre in Crystal Palace Park after West Ham’s expected acquisition is complete.

Steve Parish, Crystal Palace’s co-chairman pushing through the club’s plan for a new £50million ground. “The project will bring significant regeneration to the surrounding areas of the stadium which are quite tired. It really could do with some improvement”, he said.

Their proposals will be scrapped if Tottenham takes over the stadium. But according to reports, officers from the Olympic Park Legacy Company (OPLC) have thrown their weight behind the Hammers’ bid.

The decision still needs to be ratified by the Government and London’s Mayor, Boris Johnson.

The ambitious plans for Crystal Palace include a new indoor aquatic centre, new community athletics facility and a reconfigured indoor sports complex within the existing structure.

The principle funding will be raised from the sale and redevelopment of Selhurst Park, while the main income will be generated by ticket and merchandise sales.

The project is expected to bring new life to Crystal Palace Park and give south London a new focal point for development.
