Searching for a wholesome dose of rhythm this weekend? Well, this Saturday, new bi-monthly club-night La Fête takes over Dalston venue Open The Gate, for an evening of dance-floor friendly intercontinental fusion.

Hosted by world music promoters Focus Organization and arts organisation Beyond the Borders, La Fête this week welcomes Kasai Masai and Yak Attak; two bands who channel the raw spirit and time honoured traditions of roots music into their performance.

Kasai Masai, a five piece band led by the charismatic self-styled ‘Voodoo King’ Nickens Nkoso, summon the sound of the congo, executing inch-perfect polyrhythmic excursions that incorporate smooth guitar, bass and saxophone playing with skittering drum and d’jembe beats and mesmerising vocal chants.

Yak Attak blend a whole bunch of different influences into songs that twist and jump between different sounds. They flow through shades of low slung jazz, furious afrobeat breakdowns, spacious dub, gypsy swing and heavy funk.

Focus and Beyond the Borders are billing the night as a Valentine’s special, so bring a lover or a friend and soak up the warm vibrations of La Fête. It’s free before 9pm and £5 after. Doors open at 7pm and close at 2am.

ELL has got five tickets to give away. Just e-mail news@eastlondonlines.co.uk.

Entries close at 10am on Saturday. We’ll be pulling names out of a hat and emailing the winner straight afterwards
