Third teenager charged over Blackheath murder

Murder victim Gagandip Singh

A third teenager has been charged in connection with the murder of Gagandip Singh.

Darren Peters, 19, of Shooters Hill Road SE3 will appear at Greenwich Magistrates’ Court today charged with the murder of the 21-year-old, whose body was found in a burnt-out car in Blackheath on Saturday morning.

Harvinder Singh Shoker, 19, from Charlton and Mundil Kaur Mahil, also 19, from Chatham, Kent have also been charged with the murder of Singh. They appeared at Greenwich Magistrates’ Court on Monday morning after being arrested on Sunday.

The pair have been remanded in custody and will appear for a preliminary hearing at the Old Bailey in June.

Officers on patrol found a burning vehicle on Angerstein Lane, only a short walk away from popular tourist spot Greenwich Park, early on Saturday morning.

A fire crew was called to put out the fire just after 2:00am. The body of Singh, chief executive of satellite station Sikh TV, was found in the boot of the car, a blue Mercedes C-class.

He was identified on Saturday evening and a post-mortem examination took place on Sunday but proved inconclusive. However, tests did reveal that the victim suffered severe head injuries.

A local resident who asked not to be named said: “It’s all very grisly. We moved here because it’s such a quiet, little residential street, and it’s unnerving to think that something so horrible can happen right on your doorstep.”
