A local theatre and pub in Brockley has won the “Best Foodie Experience in South East London” at a recent awards ceremony.

The Brockley Jack Studio Theatre, on Brockley Road, has been given an Off-West End Theatre Award for its good food and atmosphere, following years of building its reputation in the area.

The awards were launched in 2010 to recognise and celebrate the excellence, innovation and ingenuity of independent theatres across London.

Local resident, Adeliade Thompson, 38, said: “The Brockley Jack is a lovely, welcoming and well-run pub and a great asset to the area. Well done to them!”

This is the second award this year for the Brockley Jack after winning the Best Venue Directors in The Fringe Report Awards 2011.

Resident producer, Darren Batten, said: “The theatre is going from strength to strength thanks to a committed team, a loyal audience and of course Steve the pub manager and staff who serve excellent food to our audiences.”

The “Offies” awards are run by OffWestEnd.com a website set up to help raise the profile and status of independent theatres in London.

Half of the awards were judged by a panel, whilst the other half, including Best Foodie Experience, were voted for by the public.

The results were announced in a ceremony held in Wilton’s Music Hall in Shoreditch on February 27 and hosted by actor Simon Callow.
