Jewellery shop raided over fake merchandise

A jewellery shop in Globe Town near Bethnal Green has been raided by Tower Hamlets Trading Standards officers after being suspected of selling counterfeit merchandise.

According to Tower Hamlets council, fake designer jewellery and watches to the value of £100,000 were confiscated from the shop after the raid on March 9.

The items are claimed to be from luxury brands, such as Blvgari, Links of London, Cartier, Tiffani & Co. and Gucci.

Brand owners alerted officials to the fake good before the council took action.

John McCrohan, Trading Standards Manager at Tower Hamlets Council. Said: “This is a blatant violation of the trademark law, and we take tough action against anyone who sells fake goods within the borough”

Trading Standards officers have started their investigations with the police.

Details about the case are yet to be made public.
