Two men die in maisonette fire

Two men have died in a fire in Shadwell that took place last night.

The men, thought to be aged around 20 and 40, were pronounced dead after being found at a maisonette in Chapman Street.

London Fire Brigade were called at 0120 GMT and said that the blaze was under control by 0252 GMT.

The blaze destroyed nearly all of the second and third floors of the four-storey block.

The victims have yet to be formally identified and the cause of the fire is being investigated.
