A 27 year old man from Eltham has been sent for hearing at the Old Bailey after being charged with the murder of 79 year old pensioner James Land at this home in Whitefoot Terrace, Downham.

Mr Land’s body was discovered by police at his home on Tuesday 10th May.

The Metropolitan Police announced on Wednesday (11th May) that they had charged Andrew Monk of Abergeldie Road, Eltham with murder.

He appeared at a short hearing before Greenwich Magistrates on Thursday (12th May), who decided to transfer the case to the Central Criminal Court where he appeared Monday (16th May).

This is the usual procedure in serious indictable criminal cases.

During this process he has remained custody. His next appearance at the Old Bailey is expected to be on 18th August when he could be asked to enter a plea and the judge will manage the timing and process of the crown court proceedings to future trial.
