Man charged with murder of Lewisham burglar

Jonathon Barnes

A man appeared at Croydon Magistrates Court, on September 3, charged with the murder of Jonathan Barnes from Lewisham. Daniel Tesfay, 25, of no fixed address, was charged with murder and the possession of a firearm with the intent to endanger life.

Barnes, 20, was found at Morland Road, Croydon, with a bullet wound following what is believed to be a bungled burglary on August 23. He died two days later. A post-mortem examination gave the cause of death as gun shot wound to the head.

Reports suggested Barnes and another man had gone to the house after being told Rolex watches were there. However, the pair were disturbed by the return of one of the occupants and a gun was fired during the ensuing struggle.
