A motorcyclist was admitted to hospital on Monday following a collision with a bus in New Cross.

The man, whose identity is not yet known, was hit by the 453 double-decker bus just after 7am on Lewisham Way, in front of Goldsmiths College. Police officers at the scene confirmed that he was then admitted to hospital.

Mike Weston, Operations Director for London Buses, has said that there will be a “full and thorough investigation” into the incident.

The accident resulted in traffic chaos in the New Cross area throughout the morning rush hour, as Parkfield Road being was sealed off and several bus routes were diverted, delayed or cancelled.

This incident follows increasing concern over road safety for non-car users, sparked by the death of two cyclists in three weeks at the Bow Roundabout in Tower Hamlets, for which TfL have publicly apologised.
