Croydon trains will suffer serious delays today after a man was struck by an express train at Streatham Common this morning.

The incident took place at 11.26am on platform one by the Victoria to Brighton service. The victim was declared dead at the scene and has not been identified. Police are not treating the death as suspicious.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: “Police are currently working to establish the man’s identity. The incident is currently being treated as non-suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

Those travelling between East Croydon, Clapham and Tulse Hill on Southern and Gatwick express services should expect over an hour of delays for most of Friday evening. Passengers are being advised to travel by trams.
