Hats off to naked models on Shoreditch catwalk

When Joe Cocker sang ‘You Can Leave Your Hat On’ he probably did not think that Milliner Robyn Coles would take the statement quite so literally.

The designer has announced that during her catwalk show in East London next month, her models will strut their stuff wearing just her hats.

Keen to buck the trend with her show, the Welsh designer has also chosen ‘not standard’ models, with many of them her friends and relatives. The models will be baring it all, including their piercings and tattoos.

Coles has admitted to EastLondonLines that, in part, the aim of her naked catwalk is to gain some publicity: “When you’re a new brand, you have to attract some attention to what you do and obviously it is just to have a bit of fun. The intention is to focus the catwalk just on the hats, but I know it won’t!”

The models will include comedian Jeff Leach from the BBC documentary ‘Confessions of a Sex Addict’ and the seven-months pregnant Miss Wales, Sophia Cahill. “You won’t see a row of skinny, size zero models,” said the designer.

The event will take place in the White Rabbit Studios in The Arches, just off Shoreditch High Street, on February 21.

Coles’ show is not the first to dare to bare all. French designer, Charlie Le Mindu – the celebrity hairdresser turned hat designer – sent her models naked during the London Fashion Week in September 2010.
