Lewisham burglar Lloyd Hurst has been jailed for three years after pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary at Woolwich Crown Court.

Hurst was caught in the act of burgling a flat in David’s Road, Forest Hill, in December 2011. Police were called to the scene after a member of the public witnessed a man acting suspiciously and later heard a window being smashed.

Hurst attempted to flee the scene by jumping over a garden fence when police officers arrived. He was chased by police, before eventually being detained and arrested.

The police recovered the goods he stole from the scene, as well as items he had stolen from a previous burglary at Bishopthorpe Road, Sydenham.

Detective Constable Will Lewis, of the Lewisham Burglary Squad, said: “Hurst is a prolific burglar and would still be out committing this offence if not for the eagle-eyed member of the public who spotted him, and his swift arrest by officers. Burglary has a huge impact on victims and the victims in this case are happy that we have managed to get their property back and bring Hurst to justice.”
