A man has been killed by a train at Hither Green station after witnesses saw him arguing with a woman on the tracks.

Paramedics from the London Ambulance Service were called to the station at around 6.30pm on Friday, but the man was declared dead at the scene with injuries consistent of having been hit by the train.

A woman in her 40s, who was with the man at the time of his death, has been arrested on suspicion of trespass and is helping police with their investigation.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: “Officers are currently working to confirm the man’s identity and establish the full circumstances leading up to his death.

“The woman and the man are understood to have had an argument and gone on to the tracks at the station.” The woman managed to get back on to the platform uninjured, however the 18.14 Cannon Street to Broadstairs service struck the man, who is yet to be formally identified. He is believed to be 38 and of no fixed abode.

The incident caused some disruption to services and the line was handed back to Network Rail at 9.15pm.

A BTP spokesman said that the incident has now been declared “non-suspicious” and the woman remains in custody waiting to be medically assessed.
