Gunshot victim identified as popular rapper

Police are appealing for information and witnesses following the murder of a 25-year-old man who was shot in South Norwood.

Police were called on Sunday afternoon to assist a man suffering gunshot wounds in a car parked in Wharncliffe Road. The deceased was later identified as Umar Tufail, of South Norwood.

Tufail was found alone in the driver’s seat of the car. He was taken to a south London hospital where he died on Monday around midday. A post-mortem was held on Tuesday and an inquest will open in due course.

Trident Gang Crime Command is investigating the murder, under Detective Chief Inspector Lee Watling.

Watling said: “I am urgently appealing for anyone who witnessed this shooting or saw anything suspicious in the area to call us.”

Umar Tufail, also known as Humuh on YouTube and Twitter, was a rapper with a large following on Facebook.

On news of his death, Mr Tufail’s friends were sharing their sadness on social media.
