Pregnant woman is stabbed during mini-cab robbery

A pregnant woman was stabbed in Bethnal Green when she tried to get into a mini-cab as it was being robbed.

The woman was attacked as she got into a minicab in Claredale Street, Bethnall Green at around 5:30pm on Tuesday this week.

Police have established that the suspect was trying to rob the minicab driver and attacked the woman as she approached the taxi.

The victim, who is five months pregnant, was pushed into the back of the car, where the man stabbed her in the leg and stole her handbag even though she told him she was pregnant.

The woman was taken to a hospital and discharged later the same day. The baby was unharmed.

The suspect is described as a young man in his late teens who is 5ft 11ins tall with a slim build. Police said that although there was no evidence of a bicycle at the scene, the suspect was wearing a cycling mask that covered his mouth and nose.
