This Sunday, January 20, Sport4Women have organised a free women-only event at Mile End leisure centre in Tower Hamlets.
The centre will offer a range of sports including badminton, netball, athletics and Brazilian dance to all women over the age of 16. The sports will run from 1pm until 5pm.
Katie Ellis, Sport4Women Coordinator, said: “This year is interesting because alongside the usual sports, we are offering cricket and rounders taster sessions.
“Because of the location of the leisure centre, the event is targeted at women in Tower Hamlets, but it is open to women from any area”.
Ellis added: “It’s a free activity. We want women to use this to build the confidence to go to other sports activities.
“Women can wear what they want, in a women-only environment, with trained female instructors, so we are hoping women from all ethnicities and backgrounds will take part.”
The event is designed to encourage more women to partake in sports events and lead a healthy lifestyle. Sport4Women wants to encourage women of all abilities to attend the coached and casual sports sessions.
A resident of Tower Hamlets said: “I will definitely be taking part on Sunday. I feel much more confident knowing it is just for women.
“I know a lot of women who are planning to come along, so it should be a really fun and social event.”
The Sports4Women events are part of the nationwide Sport England campaign to get more people involved with sport. This free event has been funded by sports charity, London Tigers.
