The singer Labrinth and the music quartet Rudimental, both from Hackney, were announced yesterday as nominees for this year’s BRIT Awards.

The Hackney musicians will compete in the same category, as both have been nominated for best British Single.

Producer and singer Labrinth, whose real name is Timothy McKenzie, is nominated for his single Beneath Your Beautiful, which features Emeli Sande. Rudimental was nominated for his summer hit Feel The Love featuring John Newman. The music quartet consists of musicians Piers Agget, Kesi Dryden, Amir Amor and DJ Locksmith.

Labrinth was in the line-up last year for BBC Radio 1’s Hackney Weekend and featured in the series, Project Hackney on BBC Three.

Rudimental also performed at last year’s Hackney Weekend and is playing a sold-out concert at the Shoreditch venue Village Underground on February 22.

The BRIT Awards 2013 will take place on Wednesday, February 20 and will be broadcast live on ITV.
