Croydon council meeting goes live on air for the first time

Croydon RadioTonight a Croydon council meeting will be live on air for the first time.

Following public calls for a more transparent local authority, the meeting will be broadcast on Croydon Radio from 6 pm.

The station first approached the council a year ago about ways to improve open the government to the public. Listeners will have the opportunity to hear debate between elected and opposition councillors over Croydon’s services.

Bieneosa Ebite, presenter of  ’In the Loop,’ a monthly show focusing on local politics and business will host this evening’s broadcast.

Tim Longhurst, Croydon Radio founder, established the online, independent station one year after the devastating London riots in August 2011 to do something positive for the area.

He said: “We believed we could offer the resources of our station to make this aspect of local Government more visible and help aid engagement with local residents.”

The meeting will feature the continuing debate within the council over the coming year’s tax and revenue budget.
