Police appeal for witnesses after Clapton shooting that leaves a teenager dead and one injured

A 19-year-old man has died and a 22-year-old man was injured last night after being shot in the street.

The incident took place on Hindrey Road, in Clapton, Hackney at 8.20 pm yesterday, police said.

The victims were taken to hospital by ambulance, where the 19-year-old later died. The 22-year-old is said to be in a stable condition.

Police are appealing for information on two suspects, seen running from the scene toward Pembury estate. Police described one as black and the second as light skinned, possibly Asian or Turkish.

In a statement the police said that detectives from operation Trident, the unit that investigates gang-related crime are leading the enquiry into the shooting.  An incident room has opened at Hendon under Detective Chief Inspector Kenny McDonald.
