Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was assaulted by three other men in Tower Hamlets.

Scotland Yard are keeping an open mind about the motives of the attack.

Shortly before 6pm on Thursday,  June 27, members of the public flagged down officers travelling in a police vehicle in Whitechapel Road at the junction with Greatorex Street, E1.

The officers discovered a man, aged 26, suffering facial injuries who had been the victim of an assault.

The victim, who has not been named,  was not seriously injured but did require hospital treatment.

Initial inquiries revealed a group of three men had approached the victim, who was walking with another male at the time, and engaged him briefly in conversation before attacking him.

The three males then fled the scene – they are described as men of Bengali appearance, all wearing what police described as ‘Punjabi’ suits.

A Met Police spokesperson said: “officers keep an open mind about the motive of the assault at the moment”.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Tower Hamlets CID on 020 7275 4546 or contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
