Police found two teenagers suffering knife wounds in a Poplar street on Monday evening

Police have launched a murder inquiry after the fatal stabbing of a 16-year old boy in Poplar, Tower Hamlets on Monday evening.

Following reports of a person stabbed at around 10pm, police found two 16-year boys suffering from knife wounds in Spey Street E14.

The injured teenagers were taken to hospital where one died later.  The other teenager remains in hospital with a non life-threatening knife injury.

The murder victim has been named as Ajmol Alom from the nearby Teviot Estate.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Chalmers said: “Initial indications are that Ajmol was with four friends.

“They were then confronted by five to six other males who were wearing bandanas and were hooded.

“There appears to have been an unprovoked attack when the victim received his facial injuries and then Ajmol was stabbed.”
