Summer wraps up for our boroughs with a weekend packed full of festivals and cultural gems. A local campaign group is hosting a victory party after their most recent achievement in the High Court, and the borough of Hackney brings forth its historic carnivals. And talking of wrap-ups, there will be plenty of that at the International Market in Croydon Town Centre. Enjoy it while it lasts…

The Vortex Outdoors (FREE)

Sunday September 15, 1:00pm - 8.00pm

Gillett Square, Dalston, N16 8AZ

The Vortex will be throwing open its doors and taking the music outside and into Gillett Square! There will be live Jazz, Brazilian, Calypso and Soca all afternoon, and the Hackney One Carnival will be passing through in the early evening, bringing with it a whole parade of spectacular costumes and hypnotic dancers.

The Square will also be hosting Open The Gate’s amazing African Market on the same day, so you can wander round the stalls and pick up some fantastic hand-crafted goodies from this great group of local traders.

Hackney One Carnival 2013 (FREE)

Sunday September 15, 10:00pm - 3:00am

The Council-run parade starts at noon and will run from Ridley Road Market, up Stoke Newington High Street and along Church Street.

There will be a food court dishing up food from around the globe, open from midday on Ridley Road. Nearby Gillett Square will play host to live entertainment, kicking off at 1pm with the loud African drumming beats from 'Open the Gate'. The 'Hackney Colliery Band', 'Drumheads' and a gathering of all costumed carnival performers will also feature in the square's programme of events set to run until 8pm. And more…

The London Art Book Fair (FREE)

The London Art Book Fair, now in its fifth year, is an annual event which celebrates the best of international contemporary art publishing. Hosted by the Whitechapel Gallery in association with Marcus Campbell Art Books, it will showcase a diverse range of work ranging from individual artist publishers to galleries, magazines, colleges, arts publishing houses, rare book dealers and distributors.

Victory for Lewisham Parade & Ladywell Fields Party (FREE)

Saturday September 14, meeting at 12:00 noon

Meeting point at Loampit Vale Roundabout, SE13 7SN (opposite Lewisham train station).

Save Lewisham Hospital Campaign invites you to their community parade to Ladywell Fields to celebrate their most recent achievement of saving Lewisham Hospital from closure. It will follow with a festival of family entertainment and celebration in the park.

The Party, organised by New Cross Learning and Madcap Coalition in Fordham Park, is a revival of the famous Urban festival. It's a community event for all ages, with family events, arts and crafts, stalls, spoken word, as well as local bands and acts for all tastes from disco to reggae, punk rock, soul and folk. There will be food stalls, a beer tent, a bookstall and bric a brac for sale.

Croydon BID are bringing back their ever popular International markets to North End. There will be a mix of foods and crafts from around the world including Indonesian gifts and crafts, Balinese Crafts, world foods served with rice noodles couscous and bread, clothing from the UK, Indian and felted goods from India, jerk chicken, goat curry, chicken curry patties, dumpling salad and much more.
