A new monthly food fair on Deptford High Street sees success after its first event on October, 5 2013.
Giffin Square Food Fair, which takes place beneath the famous his ‘n’ hers mural, was launched by Lewisham Council as part of a number of projects aiming to enrich the area for the whole community.
Mel Taylor, one of the fair’s organisers, said: “The event was fantastic and the traders all did really well with many of them selling out.”
A delicious array of street food and drink from local chefs, traders and bakers was on offer for all to enjoy including delicacies from around the world, sweet and savory pastries, deli style bread as well as freshly squeezed fruit juice and smoothies.
Taylor says each month we can expect “fantastic, affordable food” accompanied by music and entertainment creating a “great atmosphere”.
Taylor continued: “We are keen to support local businesses and we want to increase the footfall for Deptford High Street, encouraging people to explore the wider area to see what other great offers the high street shops and market have to offer.
“We also hope to help animate the market, bringing a buzz and community engagement to the area.”
Giffin Square Food Fair will take place on the first Saturday of every month from 10am-4pm.
