NHS cuts protest at Whitechapel hospital

Save our NHSProtesters will assemble outside the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel this evening to campaign against cuts to the NHS.

Campaigners are angry about pressure on East London’s Barts Health Trust to cut £78 million from its budget this year.

The cuts to the Trust will affect Barts, The Royal London, Whipps Cross, Newham General and London Chest Hospital, Mile End.

Campaign group Save Our NHS said: “Staff are facing the prospect of their posts being downgraded, the loss of meaningful pay protection, and staff shortages as vacancies are left unfilled.

“This will have an impact on local services as standards drop.”

Protesters will gather outside the Royal London from 5pm this evening.

ELL will be present this evening, our full coverage of the protest will be on the website tomorrow.
