Police have confirmed that a young man in his early twenties found dead in De Beauvoir Road, Hackney, is likely to be the same man who was previously pursued by a police car.

Police have stated that they followed a blue BMW 5 at 11pm during a routine patrol check of the area.

They failed to stop the driver.

Soon after the BMW was discovered, abandoned after it collided with several parked cars on the De Beauvoir Estate. At 12pm, a man was found nearby with serious injuries.

The London Ambulance was called and the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have confirmed that this man is likely to be the driver.

A special post mortem was said to have taken place in Poplar Mortuary this afternoon and there has yet been no official identification, although the next of kin have been informed.

Police are investigating the incident further. Anyone with further information or witnesses are encouraged to call 020 8345 4955 or the police non-emergency line on 101.
