This week’s X Factor saw Croydon hopefuls Rough Copy and Hannah Barrett progress to the next live show, while Abi Alton bid a tearful farewell.

In this week’s sing-off, Abi faced fellow Girls Category contestant Hannah Barrett, after they both received the lowest number of public votes.

In the final head-to-head, Alton sang Miley Cyrus’ ‘Wrecking Ball’ and Barrett gave her own rendition of Ed Sheeran’s ‘Lego House’.

Judge Nicole Scherzinger, who mentor both Alton and Barret in her category, said: “I refuse to choose between my girls” when asked which act to eliminate.

The decision then fell into the hands of the other impartial judges: Gary Barlow, Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh.

“Confused” Barlow could not understand why these acts were in the bottom two.

He said: “Abi, I have loved your performances, but tonight you touched me emotionally for the first time”. Barlow proceeded to vote Alton off and called Barrett “brilliant”.

Osbourne said Alton was a “talented singer-song writer” before voting her off.

Walsh was spared his elimination vote. When questioned by presenter Dermot O’Leary, he said he would have concurred with Barlow and Osbourne.

After being voted off, tearful Alton said: “I never in a million and one years thought that I would get this far. I’ve had the time of my life. I’ve met the most amazing people. I would never change it, so thank you.”

Rough Copy flew through to next week’s round after performing a stylish version of Ray Charles’ ‘Hit The Road Jack’.

Walsh praised the trio and said: “You are slick, snazzy – I love the style. You have to make the final”.
