Five men have been charged with possession of a sawn-off shotgun and ammunition with the intent to endanger life in both instances.

They will appear at Croydon Magistrates’ Court this morning.

The three charged from Croydon are Edward Ephraim, 30, Patrick Otim, 25, and Aaron Leacock, 26.

On Tuesday night, the five men were stopped by the Metropolitan Police during an armed stop of two cars in New Addington, where the shotgun and ammunition were seized.

A police spokesman described the stop as a “pre-planned operation.” Armed officers from the Met’s Trident unit stopped the cars, a Ford Focus and a BMW, at Westcott Close, at 6.15pm.

Three male suspects were arrested at the scene, while a further three attempted to flee. Two were subsequently arrested but one man escaped and remains outstanding at the time of publication.
