Hackney band Rudimental have won the ‘Breakthrough Act of the Year’ at the 10th annual UK Festival Awards on Monday evening.

The band received the award at a ceremony in Camden’s Roundhouse, beating Mercury nominees Disclosure and Bastille.

The winning quartet won for their performances at a number of festivals across the UK including Glastonbury, T in the Park and House Festival.

Shortly after the ceremony the band tweeted: “We were Best Breakthrough Act 2013 at the @festival_awards… RT if u wer at a festival with us in 2013 – this is ur award too!!”

The Festival Awards saw 575,000 Britons vote online to name their favourite festival organisers and acts.

Download Festival scooped the prize for ‘Best Major Festival’ for 2013, while the The Artic Monkeys took home the ‘Headline Performance of the Year’ and Daft Punk’s ‘Get Lucky’ was named anthem of the year.

The Festival Award is set up to recognise the hard work and vision of organisers and performers in the UK festival industry.

Most famous for singles ‘Waiting all Night’ and ‘Feel the Love’, featuring John Newman, the Hackney based band credit their home borough with bringing them together and shaping their music.

Their debut album ‘Home’ went gold in the UK and Australia.
