International Women’s Day takes place this Saturday and East London is holding an array of events over the next week aimed to inspire and celebrate women.

From outdoor activities to moving talks – and even a DJ set –there’s sure to do be something to do for you and your friends and family this week.

Get on your bike for International Women’s Day and see the sights of Croydon including the house where Sir Arthur Conan Doyle lived. The event hosts request that participants come in fancy dress of any kind and cycle at their own pace with other women.

Treat yourself to a day of empowering talks and performances of dance, drama and the arts. Women from the local community will be giving talks with the aim of inspiring young women. It will be an informal event that will bring the community together.

Star of the BBC Asian Network, Nadia Ali, shares her experiences at Whitechapel’s innovative Idea Store. She’s worked on a number of Asian channels and has come from working in children’s television to presenting the first international reality TV show in Bangladesh - as well as being a barrister and writer.

York Hall Leisure Centre

From Bollywood dancing to cardio tennis, York Hall Leisure Centre will host a week of sporting activities that bring together girls and women aged 14 and over. You can just turn up, and the sessions are free.

A visiting Palestinian woman will talk about the struggles she faces in this fundraiser in Dalston. Enjoy a three-course meal and live bands whilst supporting someone with a very different life.

Moustache Bar

Comedian Josie Long, a regular guest on TV panel shows, will DJ at the Moustache Bar to celebrate in her own feminist way. Expect the likes of Beirut and Summer Camp. Make sure you’re attending on Facebook to get £4 cheaplist entry.
