There’s lots going on across the ELL boroughs this week, from whisky to whimsy  we’ve got you covered. Here is our pick of the line.

Lewisham

Can You Dig It?

The Happy Seeds Festival takes place in the Dig This Nursery, New Cross on Saturday 17th May. Children are invited to plant tomato seeds, eat delicious tomato snacks, and play fun activities all to the soundtrack of  live folk music. 11-6pm. Suitable for ages 6-10. More information here.

Cara Dillon

The Irish folk singer's 2010 LP 'The Hill of Thieves' was awarded the BBC Folk Album of the year and since then her material has blossomed taking in echoes of Planxty and the Bothy Band, the acts who originally inspired her to make music. She takes to the stage at  Blackheath Halls,  Great Hall on Saturday 17th May. Tickets £19/£21.

Whisky Weekend

Do you know your favourite tipple? Well in Bethnal Green at the Oval space this Friday to Sunday is your chance to find out as there’s Whisky Galore. The London Whisky Weekender in partnership with The Whisky Lounge – is three days dedicated entirely to liquor with over 120 different varieties ready for tasting. They’ll also be streetfood, BBQs DJs and Live Music if your still sober enough to appreciate them.

Eastern Reflections

'Reflective East' is a new free exhibition by Sarah Fosse focusing on the iconic reflective images of London's Docklands. The paintings blend realism and the abstract inspired by the reflection of the capital's ever-changing skyline on the watery mirror of the Thames. The exhibition starts this week in the Brady Arts Centre and runs until Friday 6th June.

Hackney

Get Hooked.

The Hooks are celebrating the launch of their debut single with a gig this Friday in Paper Dress Vintage Shoreditch. They’ll also be playing alongside Normanton Street. And if you like the sound of their debut single why not head along, it’s free!

Andrew Maxwell

How long have you been a Londoner? Well Andrew Maxwell is celebrating his twentieth year in the city. The acclaimed Irish comedian – a two-time Foster’s Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee – takes to four of London’s stages with a brand new topical stand-up show about the capital. London Loves is at the Comedy Cafe Theatre, Shoreditch on the 20th of May.

Croydon

International Playwriting Festival

The 27th International Playwriting Festival takes place in the Arnhem Gallery, Fairfield Halls this weekend. Over 40 actors, playwrights, and directors come together to showcase their work on Saturday and Sunday. There will also be performances from BRIT School and international partners Extra Candoni, Italy and Theatro Ena, Cyprus. Day tickets cost £18 including supper and can be purchased here.

SCRATCH

SCRATCH offers a monthly platform for Artists from Croydon and beyond to showcase their work. Each act has 20 minutes to perform followed by a question and answer session with the audience. The event is housed in Matthew's Yard a venue in the heart of Croydon's Old Town and Entry is a mere £1.
