The UK’s largest leisure, health and community services provider, Better, has teamed up with one of Britain’s youngest-ever Olympians to launch a Diving Academy across many London boroughs, including three leisure centres in Tower Hamlets.

The Academy began operating at the Better-run London Aquatics Centre in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in April, and will now reach across the UK through a number of facilities including nearby Mile End Park, Tiller, and St George’s Leisure Centres.

This great opportunity not only provides a chance for local people to develop skills in diving but also has potential to inspire interest in the sport from both adults and children.

“It’s about getting people to try the sport, whether they want to dive for fun or competitively, whether they’re three or 73,” explained Tom Daley. “Diving’s a great sport and together with Better, I want to make sure it’s an accessible sport. It’s a really exciting time for diving in the UK.”

Paul Whiteman, Tower Hamlets Partnership Manager, added:“This is a great diving opportunity and a unique partnership with Olympic medallist Tom Daley and British Diving, which is no longer just available at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, but to our local community.”

Three types of facilities will be available at the Tom Daley Diving Academy, including Fundamental Centres which focus on beginner courses for children. Other areas include the ‘Learn to Dive’ Development Centres, which provide the beginner and improver classes. Lastly, there are the Academy Centres that will offer all levels of the diving programme up to competitive diving.
