Out of the Box, a new local history arts project is looking for creative or artistic disabled Tower Hamlets residents to create artwork for an exhibition that will be launched later this year.

Participants will take part in a series of workshops this summer using archive materials such as photographs and paintings that reflect East End history to create their own work.

The artwork will then form part of the Out of the Box exhibition, launched as part of Disability History Month in November at the Tower Hamlets Local History Library and Archives.  The exhibition will be accompanied by public events and talks and will tour local libraries in Tower Hamlets in 2015.

Organiser Mette Philipsen said: “The project aims to give disabled people with an artistic practice or passion for art the opportunity to explore the archive and produce a response. Priority is given to participants either living or working in Tower Hamlets.”

Out of the Box is a partnership between Tower Hamlets Council and disabled-led digital art agency Filmpro ltd.
