In the ELL area these days, pop up shops, restaurants, bars and markets seem to, well, pop up every week.

And then there is the local brew. Forget the mass-produced brands, now local pale ale and high quality brews in carefully designed bottles are on everyone’s lips.

Combine the two, and you get the Brockley Brewery’s pop-up kitchen.

Brockley Brewery, which is located in a former builder’s workshop in Harcourt Road, has teamed up with a local chef to launch the pop-up which will open on July 11 for an evening of carefully paired beer and food.

On the menu, you find four courses and each course is made to complement its accompanying Brockley beer. Behind the menu is André Dupin, 44, owner and Head Chef of the Forest Hill-based food company Franc and Beans, who has worked in some of London’s best kitchens, including Gordon Ramsay at Claridges and Chez Bruce in Wandsworth.

“We are really excited and delighted to be working with André,” said Andy Rowland, brewer and one of the owners of the Brockley Brewing Company. “He is a talented and imaginative chef, as you can see from the menu he’s put together for the night.”

Dupin, a brewer himself, approached the Brockley Brewery with the idea of a pop up kitchen as a result of his own passion of both cooking and brewing his own beer.

“As I started to brew I realised that beer can have many flavour profiles and can therefore be matched to different foods in the same way wine can,” he said. “Craft beer making is booming at the moment on a local level and I wanted to collaborate with a local business that makes great beer.

“I knew Brockley’s beers well, so I worked on their flavour profiles and matched food to them. It’s all light summery food that goes well with beer in a relaxed setting. A brownie at the end will bring out the chocolatey flavours in the Porter.”

Six local enthusiasts with a passion for high quality ale formed the Brockley Brewery in 2013. The goal was to set up their own brewery so the local residents could have their own high quality handcrafted beer on tap.

The pop up kitchen is open from 6.30pm until 10.30pm on July 11.
