Schoolgirl dies after collision with lorry in Catford

A 13-year-old schoolgirl has died following a collision with a lorry in Catford, Lewisham.

The fatal accident occurred on Brownhill Road, near the junction with Stainton Road.

Police were alerted to the accident around 7.35am on July 16, closing off the A205 in both directions between the Catford Gyratory and Verdant Lane for some time.

People at the scene attempted to assist the girl before the emergency service arrived, however, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Serious Collision Investigation Unit at Catford Traffic Garage is investigating the incident.

This case is the second lorry-related death to have occurred in London in the past two days.

Yesterday, a builder in his early 20s died in another collision with a lorry as he crossed a street in the City of London.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and is in custody at a South London police station.
