Plan your week ahead so you can make the most of the holiday season. There’s markets, choirs, winter wonderlands and magic for everyone, from the jolliest elf to the sulkiest Scrooge.​

 

December 17 and 18 – Romeo & Juliet

If you’re hankering after some romance and teenage angst, Some Voices choir will be singing the soundtrack to the film adaptation of one of Shakespeare’s most beloved plays at St John’s, Hackney.

December 13 – Chorus of Dissent

Christmas isn’t really for everyone, and the Chorus of Dissent know this well. For alternative entertainment, they’ll be performing traditional carols “peppered with ironic and populist festive music” to suit the “bah, humbug”-gers at Abney Park Cemetery.

December 13 – Abney Park’s Winter Fun Day

If you’d much rather spend the day surrounded by the glorious kitschy-ness of Christmas, this is the perfect place for it. Be crafty at the yuletide wreath-making workshop, win prizes at the raffle and warm your hands with a mug of Colombian coffee.

Bear witness to the world premiere of composer Sam Hayden’s newly commissioned Transience and the London premiere of French composer Gérard Pesson’s Bitume, specially written for this night at Spitalfields Music Winter Festival.

A rare window into the creative process of developing a new opera with Mahogany Opera Group. Experience a cacophony of “insanity, electricity and love” at this one-of-a-kind musical event at Tonybee Studios
