In the spirit of Christmas giving, an illustration exhibition that opens today will donate its profits to a homeless charity.

“A Long Way From Home” is hosted by the A-side B-side Gallery, an artist run gallery, project space and studios, situated within the Hackney Downs Studios creative community. The exhibition is curated by James Davies, a London-based illustrator and author.

All proceeds will go to Crisis, the national charity for single homeless people.

Davies said: “With the festive season approaching and temperatures dropping, it’s important to remember those who have nothing’’.

He added: ‘’I wanted to use my work and the work of friends to put on a show and raise some money so that even the tiniest difference can be made and Crisis can keep helping those people who are so often ignored.”

Crisis specialises in delivering housing and employment services, as well as campaigning to help change the lives of homeless people across the country and attitudes towards them.

“A Long Way From Home” will include illustrations from a group of artists, ranging from newly emerging to already well-established illustrators.

The display will showcase work from Tor Freeman, who created the artwork for The Toucan Brothers rhyming storybooks, and Hackney-based artist and picture book writer, Jenni Desmond, the artist behind the Red Cat, Blue Cat books.

Sandra Dieckmann’s bright and bold prints will also be on offer. Her clients include Random House, Sky and Al Jazeera US.

Art and gifts will be available to buy at the exhibition as well as mince pies and drinks.

The exhibition will run from Thursday 11 to Sunday 14 December, 12:00pm to 06:00pm.
