Crystal Palace have signed Shola Ameobi on a free transfer and Jordan Mutch for an undisclosed fee.

Ameobi joins Palace on a short-term deal until the end of the season after leaving Turkish side Gaziantep last month. The striker, who is best known for his time at Newcastle, made 397 appearances for the Toon between 2000-2014, scoring 79 goals.

The Nigerian international said on his arrival at Selhurst Park: ““I’m very excited to be here, I wanted to get back in the Premier League and having worked with the manager before it’s been great to come back and hopefully help us avoid the relegation battle.”

Mutch joins for an undisclosed fee, after struggling to establish himself as a first team member at Queens Park Rangers. The midfielder made just 11 appearances for the London club in his six-month stay.

Mutch seemed delighted with his move and couldn’t wait to experience the atmosphere at Selhurst Park. He said: “I’ve played here a couple of times for Cardiff and when I was at Watford. The atmosphere was electric, especially at one end of the ground, so I’m really looking forward to getting in amongst that pretty soon.”

Both players will be available for Palace’s game at home with Everton tomorrow. A win could see the Eagles climb to 12th in the table.
