An 18-year-old woman was arrested at Stansted Airport by counter-terrorism officers on Saturday.

This incident follows the arrest of a 21-year-old man in Hackney on October 29 last year, who was also arrested under the Terrorist Act 2006 and bailed until later this month.

The woman was arrested on suspicion of preparation of terrorist acts, contrary to Section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006, and membership of a proscribed organisation, contrary to Section 11(1) of the Terrorism Act 2000.

Scotland Yard has not confirmed whether the Stansted arrest was linked to last year’s incident in Hackney, however it is understood that this arrest was made part of the same investigation.

The 18-year-old was taken to a central London police station and has now been bailed until mid-February.

The Met said they could not name the woman until she was charged in court.

They could not give further information regarding the connection of the two arrests.
