Police conducted a controlled explosion of a World War Two bomb in a Stoke Newington park on Sunday.
Popular family spot Clissold Park was closed by police as they detonated the device around 4:00pm.
The bomb was found by a local resident while they were gardening and transferred to the park for safety reasons.
Officers used “white water bags” to suppress the explosion of what police have confirmed was an unexploded WW2 ordnance.
This is why it couldn’t be detonated in residential area… The white water bags were used to surpress the explosion! pic.twitter.com/ioDDHY0IIY

Both officers and local residents took to Twitter to comment on the noise of the explosion.

A police spokesperson said: “Incidents such as this happen on a very frequent basis and are much more routine than members of the public realise.”
“The device has been safely exploded and the park is now free to use again”.
