18:00 – 1 hour left of the live blog. Check back here for regular travel updates. We hope your commute is going to plan… 17:48

17:36 -BBC London reports 47% of bus services across London are running according to TFL compared to 30% during the last 24 hour strike…

17:30 – Hugo Pierre (Poplar and Limehouse) said:‘The establishment parties have all failed to sort out the problems in London’s transport system and bus drivers are at the bottom of their list. Bus drivers can work up to 90 hours a week and be paid 5 different rates for driving the same route. They have our full support in their campaign for equal pay, it’s a shame our current MPs aren’t prepared to stand with them too.’

17:25 – Currently a good service on all Tube, DLR and Overground lines.

17:22 – Glyn Robbins (Bethnal Green and Bow) said: “My dad was a bus driver in east London for 27 years so I was proud to support today’s strike by Unite members at Bow bus garage.  Privatisation was just starting when dad retired and he predicted it would lead to attacks on pay and conditions.  He was right.  TUSC argues that we need to take vital public services like transport back into public ownership.”

17:18 – What are Unite saying? Unite regional officer Wayne King said: “All we are asking for is a collective forum to discuss how we can end pay disparities over a sensible time frame.” “To suggest this is unlawful is misinformed and to suggest fares may rise when the capital’s bus operators are making combined profits of £171.7 million per year is misleading. TfL’s interference is failing passengers and the men and women who keep London’s buses on the road.”

17:15 – Leon Daniels from TfL said: “It’s not a matter for TfL to step in on. For the last 20 years, we’ve run a brilliant bus service as a result of local pay negotiation between the local drivers and their employers.”

17:10 – Members of Unite want an end to salary differences between firms that can see staff salaries differ from £17,000 to £25,000.

17:08
