The Metropolitan Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward following a stabbing in Hackney.
Police were called to Chatsworth Road at approximately 23.30hrs on Saturday following reports of a stabbing.
On arrival to the scene, the police were attacked by an angry mob of around 30 people throwing glass bottles and other “missiles”. No officers were injured.
The police discovered an 18-year-old male with serious stab wounds to his upper body. The injured man was taken to an east London hospital.
Scotland Yard released a statement describing his condition as “serious but not life-threatening”.
One emergency response team officer pursued and detained a suspect in connection with the incident.
A police spokesperson said: “An 18-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of an offensive weapon and affray. He has been taken into custody at an east London police station.”
Residents in Hackney have taken to Twitter to express their shock and concern:
