A man from Croydon has been given a suspended sentence for assaulting his former girlfriend on two occasions.

Cale McArthur assaulted the woman twice in four days. They had been in a relationship for a year.

He punched the victim twice on her right arm, three times on her left arm and continued to hit her shin, the court heard.

McArthur also attempted to prick her arm as she tried to get away from him.

He assaulted her again three days later.

This time he grabbed and punched her, and asked for money.

When she tried to turn her back on him and walk away, he punched her again.

Recorder Miller, sitting at Croydon Magistrates Court, said: ‘’Prison is really the only option for you, but we are going to suspend that option and put you on probation.”

McArthur was sentenced to 20 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months.

He also was also ordered to pay a £380 fine.

His victim filed a restraining order against him, which was also granted after he tried to contact her following his first appearance in court.

If he fails to comply with the order, he will be brought back to court.
