Crystal Palace midfielder Mile Jedinak has been charged by the FA for violent conduct resulting in a four-game ban for the midfielder.

The incident happened towards the end of Palace’s victorious 3-1 match on Saturday at Upton Park. The 30-year-old Australian Jedinak, who played the whole match, elbowed West Ham’s Diafro Sakho in the face.

Earlier in the season, Jedinak had been sent off by officials in a match against Sunderland and this latest ban could see the midfielder banned for up to four games.

Alan Pardew, the Palace boss, told the Mirror after the match that he would be surprised if Jedinak is banned.

Pardew said: “I have seen worse incidents where nothing has happened so I will be surprised if something happens with this. But the media have highlighted it and we will have to see where it goes”.

The referee, Mike Dean, did not see the “violent act” during the match. Video footage was sent to the FA the opportunity to take retrospective action.

A panel of three former elite referees unanimously agreed that it was not fair play and the match officials should have sent Jedinak off the pitch.

Jedinak had until 6.00pm tuesday to respond to the charge.
